How to Spot Fake Job Ads and Recruitment Scams in Pakistan

01 Oct 2026 Updated 09 Oct 2026 3 min read 0 reads 0 likes

Every year people lose money and trust to fake job offers. Scammers pretend to be a government department, a foreign company or a recruitment agency, and ask for fees for "processing", "medical" or "security". This guide shows the warning signs and what to do if you find a suspicious advertisement.

Red flags

  • They ask for money to give you a job. Genuine government departments do not sell jobs. Application fees exist for some tests, but they are paid by the official method mentioned in the advertisement (usually a bank challan in the department's name), and never to a person's personal account or mobile wallet.
  • The offer is too good. A very high salary for a simple job, with no test or interview, is a trap.
  • The employer is unreachable. There is no official address, only a WhatsApp number or a free email address (Gmail, Yahoo).
  • Pressure and urgency. "Pay today or lose your seat" is a typical scam line.
  • Poor language and design. Spelling mistakes, wrong logos and copied images.
  • Interview by chat only, or an interview at a private house.
  • Visa promises. Foreign jobs offered through unknown agents who want money before any contract.

How to verify an advertisement

  1. Visit the official website of the department directly (type the address yourself) and look for the same advertisement in the "Jobs" section.
  2. Compare the details: reference number, dates, post names, address and fee method.
  3. Call the official phone number published on the website, not the number in the suspicious message.
  4. For overseas jobs, check the agent's licence with the relevant government protector or bureau before you give any document or money.
  5. Search the company name with the word "fraud" or "complaint" to see what others say.
  6. Ask someone you trust, such as a teacher or a relative who works in the department.

Safe application habits

  • Never share your CNIC photo, bank details or passwords on chat with an unknown person.
  • Keep the proof of any payment (challan, receipt) and the advertisement date.
  • Use your own bank deposit slip made in the department's name, not cash to an individual.
  • Use a separate email for job applications.

If you have been cheated

  1. Stop all contact and keep screenshots, receipts and phone numbers.
  2. Report to the FIA National Cyber Crime Reporting Centre if the fraud happened online, or to your local police station.
  3. Tell your bank or mobile wallet provider about the transaction as soon as possible.
  4. Warn others: report the advertisement to the platform where you saw it.
