Banking Jobs in Pakistan: Test Pattern, Topics and Preparation Plan
Banks are among the most popular employers for graduates in Pakistan. Public and private banks hire for posts such as Operations Officer, Customer Service Officer, Teller and Management Trainee. The hiring process varies from bank to bank, but it usually includes an online or written aptitude test followed by interviews. This guide explains what to prepare.
Typical stages
- Application: online form and CV, mostly through the bank's careers page.
- Screening: checking of degree, CGPA and age.
- Written or online test: English, quantitative, analytical and general awareness.
- Interview(s): HR and technical rounds.
- Reference and document check, then offer.
Topics to prepare
| Section | What to study |
|---|---|
| English | Grammar, vocabulary, comprehension passages, sentence correction |
| Quantitative | Percentages, ratio, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, averages, data interpretation |
| Analytical / logical reasoning | Series, puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogisms, analogies |
| General awareness | Current affairs, Pakistan, world events, economy basics |
| Banking and finance basics | Role of the State Bank, types of accounts, commercial banking, inflation, interest rate, cheques, KYC and anti-money-laundering ideas |
| Computer | MS Office, internet and basic security |
Simple and compound interest
Simple interest = (Principal × Rate × Time) / 100. For compound interest, the interest is added to the principal each period, so after n years: Amount = P (1 + r/100)n. Practise a few examples every day until the formulas feel natural.
Banking knowledge in simple words

- KYC: "Know Your Customer", verification of customers' identity to prevent fraud.
- Islamic banking: banking based on profit and loss sharing and asset-backed contracts instead of interest.

- Show good communication, honesty and willingness to learn.
- Dress formally and carry copies of your documents.
A warning
Banks never ask for money to hire. Apply only through the official website or the advertisement of the bank, and be careful with messages that promise a job for a fee.
